The Police Officer protects property and persons on VA property, and enforces appropriate criminal codes and regulations. Assists patients, visitors and employees who require direction and/or physical assistance. Issues traffic citations and federal violation notices when necessary. Responds to crowd and riot control, bomb threats and search requests. Questions witnesses and principals in crimes reported on VA property. Arrests persons for offenses committed on VA property and transfers them to appropriate authorities for detention. Frequently works and patrols alone and without supervision in the outlying grounds and parking lots areas. Directs and assists persons to safety areas during fire, storm or other emergencies and takes prompt action to evacuate persons from dangerous areas.

Highly qualified applicants may be eligible for a 15% Recruitment Incentive.

GS-5 Level: Must have at least one year of specialized experience at or above the GS-4 grade level or the equivalent in the private sector. This experience must have provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Examples of qualifying experience: work on a police force; service as a military police officer; work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; criminal investigative duties; or other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. Applicants may substitute for this experience successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelors degree in Police Science or a comparable degree program related to the work of the position. Applicants may substitute for 3 months of specialized experience successful completion of a Federal, State, county, or municipal police academy or comparable training course that included at least 40 classroom hours of instruction in police department procedures and methods, and local law and regulations.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR POLICE OFFICER POSITION:

  • Applicants must possess a valid, unrestricted State drivers license, have a safe driving record, and demonstrate that he or she is medically qualified to operate the appropriate motor vehicle safely.
  • VA Police Officers must be able to achieve and maintain mandatory firearm qualification/certification.
  • New VA Police Officers are required to attend an 8-week course at the VA Law Enforcement Training Center in Little Rock, Arkansas within 90 days of entry on duty.
  • A character investigation will be conducted on applicants selected for employment. The purpose of such an investigation is to secure evidence of the candidates honesty, integrity, general character, and loyalty to the U.S. Government.

    This position serves as a medical support assistant in the Radiology Service Line in White River Junction VA Medical Center, and is under the supervision of the Chief Radiologic Technologist.   Occupation involves technical work concerned with processing CDs with patient images andreports, and scheduling patient appointments.  Work requires practical knowledge of medical terminology and procedures common to each modality, department procedures for the scheduling of patient appointments, and HIPAA procedures regarding release of patient information. Analytical ability, judgment, discretion, and dedication to customer service are required on a daily basis to carry out the functions of this position.

     

    Duties include but are not limited to:

     

    * Receives telephone calls via the automated call distribution (ACD) system from internal and external customers in timely manner.

     

    * Schedules patients for radiology tests in accordance with Service procedures and policies; and instructs patients on standard preparation procedures required prior to testing (i.e. liquid intake, medications, dietary instructions, lab tests,etc).  

     

    * Schedules appointments in the scheduling package; avoiding conflicts with other scheduled appointments within the Service, and other Medical Center services.

     

    * Burns images to CD from Picture Archiving Computer System (PACS) digitized workstation following departmental and medical-center wide policies.  

     

    * The work is performed under stressful situations, in that the incumbent must be able to cope with difficult personalities and heavy workloads, which requires strict attention to detail and independent resolution of day-to-day problems .

Analytical ability, judgment, discretion, and dedication to customer service are required on a daily basis to carry out the functions of this position.

    * Receives telephone calls via the automated call distribution (ACD) system from internal and external customers in timely manner.
