Incumbent is responsible for performing the full range of supervisory duties to include training subordinates, conducting time/motion studies, and accomplishing routine assignment/reassignment of a fixed staff with unusual workloads. Incumbent must be accurate in reports and in operational details relating to this position so that the Chief, Environmental Management Service and Road & Grounds Maintenance Supervisor may rely with confidence on the information provided. Incumbent is knowledgeable of the policies of the Environmental Sanitation Program to effectively anticipate the needs of the Service and is able to perform independently within the scope of policies and guidelines set forth by the Service Chief and the healthcare facility. Incumbent must have ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with all levels of staff personnel. Sufficient academic and/or administrative training must have been acquired to understand complex written instructions, policies, environmental laws and regulations, e.g. Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), etc. Incumbent must exercise a high degree of judgment in planning quality control measures, work schedules, production standards, and cleaning frequencies for the healthcare facility. The incumbent must be familiar with all types of cleaning procedures, proper chemical applications and method of attaining an aseptically clean environment. He/she must also be capable of teaching members of the service in these areas.
