The White River Junction VA Medical Center is a core teaching hospital for the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. A faculty appointment, commensurate with experience, at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth will be expected as a part of this position. The faculty member will be expected to participate fully in the education of Internal Medicine residents and medical students.
Ophathalmologists clinical responsibilities include provision of care in all inpatient and outpatient areas at the WRJ VAMC. Clinical responsibilities may include provision of care at WRJ VAMC Community Based Outpatient Clinics.
Provides evaluation and management services as well as ophthalmologic surgical services including the administration of related anesthetic agents as specified in clinical privileges.
Participates in the Weekend/Holiday/Evening/Night on-call schedule.
Maintains BLS certification.
Maintains an active medical license in the United States.
Provides the patient with risks, benefits and alternative treatments and secures informed consent of the patient/family before conducting invasive procedures.
Evaluates the patient to assess any changes in the physical status, lab values and vital signs of the patient prior to surgery. Enter Appropriate pre-and post-operative notes in the patients medical records, times, dates, and signed.
Provides inpatient and outpatient consultations as requested.
Participates in various hospital committees, department and hospital in-service programs, acquires CMEs and participates in MOC as required by individuals specialty board.
Works effectively with patients, families, co-workers, and other health care professionals treating them with respect and dignity.
Complies with information security and procedures.
Provides patient care appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient. He/she must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served within Surgical Service. Demonstrates the knowledge of changes associated with aging and possesses the ability to provide care based upon age-related factors as specified on the competence assessment checklist.
Uses the best available, evidence-based procedures and perform them at or above national statistical levels.
Participates in the education and training of medical students, residents and fellows as appropriate.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
a. Citizenship. Citizen of the United States.
b. Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
(1) Schools of medicine holding regular institutional membership in the Association of American Medical Colleges for the year in which the degree was granted.
(2) Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
(3) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico), or in the District of Columbia as qualifying for full or unrestricted licensure.
(4) For residents, graduation from an approved medical school as described above is required except as provided in M-8, part II, chapter 1.
Applicants must provide a copy of their college transcripts.
c. Licensure. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure.
d. Physical Requirements. Must pass a pre-employment physical.
e. English Language Proficiency. Physicians must be proficient in spoken and written English.
